We Don't Live

We don't live too long
We got to sing our Psalms
We got to speak our mind
In hopes one day we will fight

Give me water to drink
Give me food to eat
Give me a job 'till I grow cold
Give me a place to call my home

Dust off your tired eyes
We gotta take 'em by surprise
I wanna see a riot
Happening all the time
All the time, all of the time

Eye Spy

I spy with
my little eye
Something creeping
Across the sky
It's me and my girl
In our own little world

Guess what?
Chicken butt!
Laugh all day
Happy or not
Seasons change
I'll remain there same

Sailing
Next afternoon
Sun is shining
Moon is too
Smile at each other
Special way we do

Now it's time
To bury your horses
Get back home
Finish your courses
Winter's near
I'll be swinging here

Let's Dance

Let's Dance in the Autumn light
Let's romance tonight

I have seen your inner being
I know you more than I know me

You're not alone
You can call me on the telephone
Your number's ringing in my mind

I saw a bird go by
She turned into a butterfly
And promised to never look back

Then the rose grew
It turned her skin to blue
And proved to me
She's still memory

The Jane Collective

Born and raised
Born and raised
I've been born and raised by
A single mother on her own

Three jobs
One son
Never did
Reach bottom
At the end of the day
I got debt to pay, yeah

Think it's time
To call on Jane
Found her number
On the bathroom mirror
Tomorrow I'll make
That drive to Chicago

Born and raised
Born and raised
I've been born and raised by
A single mother on her own

Bury Me Deep

Bury me deep
Under the old oak tree
Bury me deep
Where I'll rest in peace

Bury me deep
Under the yellow sand
Bury me deep
In my own home land

Bury me deep
Under the blue green sea
Bury me deep
With Heaven's gate key

Bury me deep
Under the open road
Bury me deep
Without this heavy load

Bury me deep
Under the tall corn field
Bury me deep
With my family shield

Bury me deep
Under the flower bed
Bury me deep
Where Jesus bled

Bury me deep
Under the black oil soil
Bury me deep
where there is no toil

Bury me deep
under the cloudless sky
Bury me deep
where angel's fly

Bury me deep
Under father sun
Bury be deep
Where I started from

Bury me deep
Under other moon
Bury me deep
But not too soon

Tin Soldiers

Ten more soldiers
Over yonder
I can see
The enemy

Right next door
War on the poor
I say roll over
Ask for more

You're walking the beat
We're moving our feet
You got a gun son
But we got arms

Wearing Black

Wearing black on a sunny day
Watching flowers move in the wind
Just saw a bird, she's lost her way
Some would say clip her wings

He reached out and took my hand
Waving his arms, conducting the show
He sits down. he will not stand
Waiting for his 22 candles to blow

A polka came on, he danced in his chair
All of his favorites are by Myron Floren
Mr. Bubble or he doesn't care
If you're lucky he might call you Old Man

Middleton Prayer

Down there at Middleton
They're in the cotton field again
You may not know that
They're predetermined by the color of their skin

I pray one eye open
I pray one eye closed
I'm ready to got tonight
How about your soul?

She's been in my arms tonight
Been far too long
She's getting tired
Rest her weary bones

I'm on a mystery train
Searching for the Grail
My skin's getting pale
My soul's in Hell

Boo Radley
Quiet as a mouse
Never see him outside
Always in his house

Folkwaves

Folkways behave
Monarchs decay
She waved my way
Said, Apple's Okeh

Big Pink stays
Sun City made
Crossed out James
Left with Cain

His bowels gave out
Her lungs turned black
His brain atrophied
Into a walnut
Take 'em out west
Where they can rest
for good

He's Flying Nun
She's perfect Babylon
They fleed the asylum
and returned home to Eden

It's cold in bare heals
Bad genes and alleles
Figure you're bettin'
On eternal Heaven

Judas Prone

I've thrown the first stone
Broken down, Judas prone
Faces I've Kissed
Her birthday I miss

I closed my eyes
Open to my surprise
She's grown from the seed
In he mother's womb

Too much time has passed
Her blue eyes cast
A shadow on my heart
All those years we spent apart

I've seen her laugh and play
I've seen her led astray
I heard her father's fears
Echo loud in her ears

I built my house on sand
Sinking in since I began
To turn my back
On my old friends
